Social Gatherings limited to six. Lockdown coming back?

Been awful quiet on here since the last political topic went dead. Let’s see if we can liven things up again 🤣.

Can’t say I’m surprised as especially up here in Northampton as people seem to be flouting the rules quite heavily recently especially on nights out and we were very close to going into a local lockdown. Freshers week is going to be interesting. What’s it been like in Pompey in regards to students? I’m guessing it’s still a while until everyone is back?

In my coffee shop, the vast majority follow the rules. Mask on at the door. Off only when seated at table.

But!

Went for my first pub meal last week. Very busy. All tables in our area taken (and it was not a £10 off day) Usual distances apart. Lots of people chatting at the bar. All as close as normal. No sign of a mask at all!

Lymington market is always very busy on a Saturday. It still is. Nothing looks different.

Is it any wonder there's a spike?

It seems that All blanket restrictions do is hide the virus.
The government encouraged people to go out , socialise etc even had the 50% off food scheme, then they have the nerve to blame the public when there's a rise in positive tests.

Now we have another restriction that makes zero sense .

There's people in this "Conservative" party and NHS management that need to be investigated for their actions during all this. Whether it be discharging sick elderly people from hospital untested and stuffing them into care hones killing thousands or destroying peoples businesses or jobs .

I should probably point out that I don't have 6 friends anyway . At least not who would be together at the same time😂

If the rule is still in place at Christmas it will be ignored .

Sorry, Nuts, it seems like I have a vendetta against you today, but it's nothing personal, I promise!

I watched "Sully: A Miracle On The Hudson" on telly a week or so ago, it tells the story of the pilot who landed the aeroplane on the Hudson river, NYC, back in 2009 (I think), and all people on the plane survived.

Part of the film focussed on the investigation into the accident. The computer simulations suggested that the plane could have landed safely back at LaGuardia, and at an alternative airfield, Teterboro.

To prove the point, the investigators asked for two different crews to have the scenario programmed into a simulator, and indeed both crews safely landed at both LaGuardia and Teterboro. The investigation asked why the plane ditched in the Hudson.

Sully asked how many practice runs the simulator crews had before the "evidential" run - it turns out that both crews had had the opportunity for over a dozen.

Sully also asked what the delay was between the simulated bird-strike, and the crews starting to attempt to land. There was no delay, whereas the actual crew had to figure out what had happened and plan how to deal with it. When the simulator crews had to wait 35 seconds before commencing their plan, neither successfully landed.

My point?

When you're dealing with a completely new scenario, with no recourse to previous experience, and without the benefit of hindsight, perhaps, just perhap, we need to cut those tasked with dealing with that scenario a little slack, no?

Yes I've seen the film . If you're good with sick , untested, elderly people being discharged into care homes that's up to you. I'm not .

Great film. Has Tom Hanks made a bad one?

Oh yes, that was cringe-worthy. Strange how Spielberg can be so sentimental sometimes but still produce something like Schindler's List.

Agreed re. Johnson and his mainly similarly incompetent and arrogant government. Re. the NHS management, I agree to a certain extent however there have been some who have had the care of the people at heart but were being pressured by government rather than having the balls to stand up against them.

Don't think you'll need to worry about that one Nuts as you need to have the 6 friends in the first place to be in a group of 6 friends.
