I'd be more amazed if Lowe wanted to drop to league one.

What I have read, and going on past first hand experience, I would have said it was the obvious way to go by playing at least two strikers. When a team struggles to create chances with skillful play generally the answer is to bring on more strikers, as in the Rovers game where we ended up with three up top. Any forward punt has danger for the opposition with more players looking to get on the end of forward passes. I haven't seen the new loanee yet but I always thought our transfer policy was too League One orientated without the extra quality needed. Perhaps we should start games by chasing the game and then altering the shape once we have gone in front by a couple of goals.
I assume you’re not advocating a return to the Charles Hughes approach to football? 😀

At Home I’d also like to see us start with 2 centre forwards and an attacking formation that’s going to put them/keep them on the back foot.
Sorry for not replying sooner but I have been away and getting WiFi has been a real problem.

Actually the Charles Hughes POMO theory is not that far fetched in my opinion. While I would like to see goals created with silky skillful football it can't be delivered if you haven't got the players capable of delivering it. It appears Pompey are in such a position because they either weren't prepared to pay the money for such players or they were just unable to get them in. In my opinion this type of player has been a crucial omission of the club for some time now, and they have failed once again this past summer to get them in.

Most successful teams have players that can create openings for goal scoring chances, Ipswich certainly did last season as did Sheffield Wednesday. I can't actually explain Plymouth's route for success and I wonder how they will fare this season in the Championship. I do remember the old Wimbledon team that caused a sensation with their brand of football using players of limited skills to mix it, and beat, the best. I just hope our club has brought in players that will come good or get the players we need before the end of the window. Failing that we will be the draw specialist again while missing out on the promotion that Mr Eisner said we were going to have a "real good go at" this season.
