Re: Stevenage
Fair point! Maybe I misread it and that was last summer when he had longer left on his contractpompeygunner wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 8:06 am Ref JCH, 29 & in his final year of contract. They'll be lucky to get 750k imho.
If we were going for another L1 striker I'd probably prefer Dion Charles at Bolton - I believe he had a successful partnership with Bishop at Accrington a couple of years ago too.

Re: Stevenage
Trouble is we go back to this issue whoever we were interested in,that they would not be prepared to play second fiddle to Bishop. Having said that I’m sure other good teams like Ipswich when they were in our division had more than one striker.PeteM wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 10:00 amFair point! Laughter is the jam on the toast of life. It adds flavor, keeps it from being too dry, and makes it easier to swallow.

Re: Stevenage
Is the problem creating chances or taking chances?
Personally I think it's been a bit of both.

Looks like ambitious Joey Barton is looking to sign him could be a good move if the price is right but even at £750 k could be another Marquis also at 29 a risk. On the other hand might be the signing that takes them to the Championship that’s football for you

Re: Stevenage
From a player's POV, I wonder if playing under Joey Barton would be an incentive or disincentive to moving to Rovers.jam tomorrow wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 12:32 pmpompeygunner wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 8:06 am Ref JCH, 29 & in his final year of contract. They'll be lucky to get 750k imho.

Re: Stevenage
A player who's scored plenty at this level is surely worth a gamble if you're serious about promotion.

Re: Stevenage
Not if it’s outside your strategic plan of looking for assets you can improve and sell on for a profit or are failed championship players who know the head coach on a free transferBetelgeuse wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 1:42 pm A player who's scored plenty at this level is surely worth a gamble if you're serious about promotion.
I would suggest this strategy may be more important to our recruitment team than promotion at this moment in time

Re: Stevenage
As others have mentioned, I believe a huge part of our problem is Pack and Morrell. Good players, but creating nothing and so fricking predicable. I'd give Pack a rest. Stevenson has looked good every time I've seen him. Still, at least Swanson will now get his chance.

Raff's has most of our assists this season though, but do think Swanson has a lot to offer.Selsey Bill wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 6:15 pm As others have mentioned, I believe a huge part of our problem is Pack and Morrell. I'd like to see Pack take some risks, if that means he busts a guy for 45 and only plays a half so be it.

Re: Stevenage
So JM should consider using a different combination in the midfield even to the point of bringing in another loan if necessary we need a midfield that is a springboard to setting up goals. Not a stodgy predictable midfield it needs mixing up to make the opposition wonder what we are going to do next, and surprise them. Get that right then we will see how our wingers get on but this is the key to our seasonSelsey Bill wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 6:15 pm As others have mentioned, I believe a huge part of our problem is Pack and Morrell. Re: Stevenage
Pack looks ‘leggy’ at times this season and prob wants to limit his exposure to avoid more moments like Brizzle Rovers on the opening day.Pompey1984+1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 6:44 pmRaff's has most of our assists this season though, but do think Swanson has a lot to offer.Selsey Bill wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 6:15 pm As others have mentioned, I believe a huge part of our problem is Pack and Morrell. I agree though we need a proper box to box midfielder to complement either Pack or Morrell as playing both is clearly limiting our attacking play.
I believe we need to pace up top and have done for several seasons. Colby can hold the ball and obv comes alive in the box however he doesn’t have pace that worry’s defenders (making him more predictable e.g. he rarely runs behind).
Playing 2 up front where the second forward has genuine pace is really important, it obv gives the 2 central defenders more to think about when we attack. Equally it means that when we attack down the wing the central defenders can no longer confidently support their full back which obv helps the wingers as they’ll have more space.
As a min I’d be starting 2 centre forwards at FP, at the expense of one of either Pack or Morrell.
