Anyone on here watch / used to watch professional wrestling?

Post by Sam_Brown »

WWE / WCW / World of Sports etc?

Just been to a show at Wembley Stadium with 80k in attendance from the new kids in town. All Elite Wrestling. Only started 5 years ago and selling out Wembley. While this was awesome and just got home.

Curious if we have any current or previous wrestling fans on here?

P.S. it’s fake in case you didn’t know but still less play acting than the standard La Liga match!

I used to go and watch wrestling in Portsmouth when I was much younger. I used to get 2/6 (12.5 pence) pocket money and it used to cost 1/6 (7.5 pence) to get in to wrestling. One particular day it clashed with a Pompey home match time wise so I had to make a choice. Not only that Pompey had put their prices up to 2 shillings for boys entry so there was an economic decision to be made. Pompey won, of course, but I had also come to the conclusion that it was all fake at the wrestling.

Anyone remember Tarzan Johnny Wilson? Quite a Pompey celeb back in the day. Famous for his rather-too-tight leopard skin pants.

Used to watch Mick McManus, Giant Haystacks, Jackie Pallo. In those days it was almost real with some really bad feelings between them. Too comical now

I am tempted to ask if you are Cheeta, but I won't. That would be just childish.

Definitely. Wrestlers are a lot more healthy these days. There are a lot less steroids. There is also a trend towards most wrestlers being slightly smaller than back in the day and more acrobatic and working safer.

Wrestling careers tend to be a lot longer now than the guys from the 70s and 80s. Hell two of the big matches on Sunday featured guys in their 60s and 50s respectively and they still put on great matches.

I don’t know if anyone remembers Sting from WCW days but he’s still going strong and is mid 60s! Amazing what looking after your body and not taking a ****** load of drugs can do for ones longevtivity!

i remember in the days of ginat haystacks and the like, there was a guy called Davey-Boy Smith, he was a skinny little guy. He went to the states, discovered steriods and became the british bulldog, you would not believe it was the same person

Aye. This guy here is called Drew McIntyre and he's from Scotland. This is what he looked like early days...
