Your Team for Peterborough (league) 02.09.23

Post by Jack_Tinn »

So Pompey get a second chance to beat Peterborough at Fratton Park. What is your team for this Saturday's league game?

I am going to make a formation switch and go for 3-5-2 - aha didn't see that coming did you Ferguson! It seems a very adpt time to use this formation since Rafferty is suspended and Scully is injured.

This is the last league game for a couple of weeks and I think it would be a great opportunity to get a win at home against a promotion rival by playing an attacking side with attacking wingbacks (Swanson and Sparkes) and two strikers through the middle.

To outfox Ferguson further I/Mousinho can write down this team in a way that looks like we are playing our usual 4-3-3 formation. I will write itthough as a 3-5-2 showing what I has as their respective positions instead.

Anjorin starts for me as an attacking midfield slightly ahead at the point of a triangle with Morrell and Pack at the base. With the ball Shaughnessy can step into midfield too and Morrell is released further forward too.

My team:

Norris,

Poole, Shaughnessy, Oglivie

Swanson, Morrell, Anjorin, Pack, Sparkes

Bishop, Saydee

Subs: Raggett, Robertson, Kamara, Whyte, Devlin, Lane, Schofield

What do you think? And what is your team and tactics for tomorrow.

I don't think we will change formation.

Swanson in at right back. Lane and Whyte on the wings. Robertson in the hole and Bishop up top.

I'd have the same formation but go with Devlin / Robertson / Tino alongside Morrell and Tino / Robertson behind Saydee.

I like your idea but realistically I expect the team to be 4-3-3
Norris
Swanson Poole Shaughnessy Ogilvie
Pack Robertson Morrell
Whyte Bishop Kamara
Although in my view Whyte is only keeping his place because of his past with Moushino it’s certainly not based on his performances and would start Lane
If things are not going well I could see us going three at the back and bring on Saydee and Anjorin for Shaughnessy and Whyte

Yeah - goes against all sense but I'm not convinced he's fit

I like the idea of a 3-5-2 formation but strongly suspect we will start with the tried and ‘trusted’ 4-3-3 especially as Posh typically play 4-2-3-1.

That being the case I expect us to start
Norris
Swanson, Poole, Shaughnessy, Ogilvie
Pack, Robertson, Morrell
Lane Bishop Sparkes

I would go with that Mick but I would play Kamara up front with Bishop instead of Sparkes

I just hope we have a smooth game no linesman or referee injuries to break up play and Pompey show more urgency to score goals

Mousinho has gone with:

Norris,
Swanson,
Poole,
Shaughnessy
Oglivie,
Morrell,
Pack,
Whyte,
Saydee,
Kamara,
Bishop

subs: Schodfield, Towler, Raggett, Sparkes, Devlin, Robertson. Lane

Anjorin didn't make the squad. I suspect he needs some fitness work since I suspect he only had a light pre-season workload and hasn't played any games for a while either. Pompey don't have any meaningful games for two weeks after this so he can be integrated for the next game vs Derby.
