New Forester - Flag Turned Up - Look Where It Ended Up!
Went up the Peak District this weekend and it turned up yesterday just before we left.
Couldn’t not take it with us on our outing!

A bit higher than 5 metres up in the Forest!
Great to see it.

Castleton. Started at the YHA and up to hollins cross. Down to Edale and up grindsbrook Clough. Round to kinder and down jacobs ladder and back into Edale.
We were losing light so tried to get a taxi back to Castleton but none are available so train from Edale to Hope and then walk from hope to Castleton along the main road.
Phew. Weather was crap also

Good route that! No taxis out there - at least there is a pavement along that road if I remember correctly.Sam_Brown wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 10:02 pm Castleton. I'm pretty sure I've been to Castleton, Derbyshire right?

Good route: you must be reasonably fit! Suspect that Jacobs Ladder was slippery in the wet...Sam_Brown wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 10:02 pm Castleton. Started at the YHA and up to hollins cross. Down to Edale and up grindsbrook Clough. Round to kinder and down jacobs ladder and back into Edale.

Yeah it wasn’t great. There were four of us who went up and two of us (myself included) ended up slipping and ending up on our arses on Jacobs ladder. I tweaked my knee doing it but nothing serious I think.Milton End wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 10:49 amGood route: you must be reasonably fit! I’m not that fit these days so when we started the ascent up Grindsbrook the realisation of the task at hand soon hit hard! The last 15 minutes were really difficult for me but you’ve got no choice but to keep going when you are thst close to the top!
I think the worst part was all the peat and bog up top. How no one lost a show I have no idea!
We’d originally planned to go up grindsbrook and go counter clockwise all the way to Mam Tor and back down into Castleton but by the time we hit edale rocks time was against us due to how long it took to get over the big and whatnot so we decided it was safer to come down than risk being up top come sunset. Even then we made it back in the dark albeit on the road from Hope to Castleton after getting the train from Edale. Tell you what though that first hot shower once we’d gotten back was amazing as was the first pint in Castleton once we left for dinner (and the second pint and third...).
I’ve put the original route below but in the end we came down Jacors Ladder into Barbers Booth then onwards to Edale. You can still see the ascents we took though!

Thanks for giving the Pompey flag an adventure. All it had done before was to run up and down a static 5 metre pole.

You can take the man out of Pompey
But you can`t take Pompey out of the man
