Re: Blackpool
That was our worst performance for a while but think we learned something first Sparkes can’t defend and their manager obviously noticed that and if Bishop doesn’t score no one else is capable of stepping up
The referee was totally useless but you can’t blame that on a totally abject performance today with Moushino being yet again being out thought by a more experienced manager who identified our weaknesses and exploited them

Isn't that fine tuning?jam tomorrow wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 5:19 pmRich Hughes has stated in terms of transfers we just need some fine tuning in Jan. We certainly need more than that at the very least we need strengthening in three or four positions.Betelgeuse wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 5:05 pm This referee should not be refereeing at this level. Appalling all game, definitely favoured Blackpool given the offside goal given and yellow cards dished out which should have been given to them. Iffy sending off which changed the game. I'm very glad I wasn't there as I'd have probably been escorted out of the ground.
Having said that we miss far too many chances and don't press home our advantage, I'm not sure this is a promotion team and work needs to be done in the transfer window.

If Ogilvie is out for a while then a left back who can defend and another established goalscorer is the fine tuning we needPompey1984+1 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 6:33 pmIsn't that fine tuning?jam tomorrow wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 5:19 pmRich Hughes has stated in terms of transfers we just need some fine tuning in Jan. But that will cost so doubt if it’s going to happen
Just more “assets” to sell on I would imagine

Laughter is the jam on the toast of life. It adds flavor, keeps it from being too dry, and makes it easier to swallow.

The owners have backed the managers every window and I doubt this window will be any different. Don't think they will be signing Mbappe though...Pompey55 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 6:40 pmIf Ogilvie is out for a while then a left back who can defend and another established goalscorer is the fine tuning we needPompey1984+1 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 6:33 pmIsn't that fine tuning?jam tomorrow wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 5:19 pmRich Hughes has stated in terms of transfers we just need some fine tuning in Jan. Re: Blackpool
Well I think a few things came home to roost today. Morrell being sent off didn't help our cause but we were being beaten by a better team before he was sent off. I think that has been coming for a while to be honest. We were top of the league at this stage season because we have a good team but a good team with deficiencies. These deficiencies were brutally shown up today and shows our weaknesses.
We were top of the league but we were not outclassing teams but beating them by out working them and with sheer determination. We do have good players for this level while we also have players that are no more than average for this league. We are definitely no Ipswich.
I also think that Mousinho's inexperience has been shown up as well by being out thought in this game and Chesterfield, for instance, plus a few other times to a lesser extent. We bought some good players in during the summer but we also brought in others that, in my opinion, did not reflect a team 'giving promotion a real go'. We only have one striker at the club, who is probably the best all round number 9 in League One, being backed up by two inexperienced and untried players at this level. I consider this as a mistake by the club if promotion is the top priority. Unless Mousinho drops this reliance of just starting games with one up front the back up players are not going to get the experience required. We will be totally blunt if we lose Bishop. Not getting a decent left back as cover for Ogilvie is also a mistake. Sparkes had a terrible game today and showed once again he is far from dependable in defence. He does have qualities going forward but is woefully inadequate for defensive duties. I think Robertson was a good signing but he is only a loan and the club failed to bring in the sort of player needed to give that extra bit of inventiveness. Other signings have also failed so far, such as Whyte and Stevenson. Like I say there have been some good signings too, Shaughnessy and Poole are excellent, but not enough to make us the class team of this league.

Do you remember that Likely Lads episode?meakinsl wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 4:53 pmAhhhh ! Been avoiding premier league scores all day saving it for match of the day - still guess still don't know if it was a loss or draw (please don't say) - always a danger reading football forum but assume not the only one that has to sometimes go to extraordinary lengths not to hear results as love watching match of the day without knowing although normally can tell if there is an upset by what they show first and you pretty much know by the last game going to be a bore draw.New Forester wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 4:36 pm I was going to make my first visit to FP after a long absence but decided against it yesterday and sold my seat. Re: Blackpool
Starting one up front has always bothered me. It makes it easier for the opposition, which isn't rocket science to figure out. I think starting Martin ahead of Saydee was a big mistake. It doesn't do much for a player's motivation to be overlooked for someone untried. That's how players lose their reason to try. Tuesday will be very interesting.Blue Walter wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 8:34 pm Unless Mousinho drops this reliance of just starting games with one up front the back up players are not going to get the experience required. Actually, I don't think it was our worst performance of the season and I don't think we really played that badly. We were just beaten by a better team. I think what done for us is that we played a team that was capable of exposing our weaknesses and take advantage. We did have passages of play that were good and had Blackpool concerned. Their keeper made some good saves at 1-0 which could have got us back in the game. I will also agree we had some real ropey passages of play with players making poor passes, such as the one just before half time when Sparkes passed it back from the halfway line only to kick the ball out of play in an attacking area for Blackpool. I think Blackpool then played the text book 11 against 10 game and we had no chance. I think if we had played inferior opposition we would have fared better, which goes without saying I suppose, but it does show that not all League One teams are inferior to us.
