My Sunday league team had a game against Portsmouth borstal in 1968 ( I think that it was a borstal by then), a few weeks after I got married. As I recall they mainly had v short haircuts and were extremely fit! We lost, and as I had been on the nest I was absolutely knackered by the end of the game. Actually, I think that I may have been knackered before the game even started!

The guy at the back on the left looks a bit like Cruyff, but definitely isn't and the guy second from the left at the front looks a bit like Dave Beasant.

It must be about 1973?

It is indeed a school team, Portchester Secondary Modern. At least 3 of them were offered apprenticeships (two with Pompey and one with Reading), although I believe a fourth was offered papers by Brighton. I'm pretty sure none of them took up the offers.

Date wise, a very good guess as I believe the pic was taken in 1974, and I also have another in colour.
