Apart from Pat Neil, who I believe was an amateur international as well as playing for Pompey, how about Ron Newman and Keith Viney?

Sorry to be a pedantic old git but my book has Jimmy Dickinson born in Alton. He died there too apparently.Blue Walter wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 6:04 pmThat would make a great team but, if I may be pedantic. Froggatt was born on my birthday in Sheffield (a bit earlier I might add), Dickenson was born in Winchester. Dougie Reid was born in Scotland, Alan Knight in London and Guy Whittingham was born in Evesham. Reg Flewin was born in Portsmouth but Jack Whatmough was born in Gosport, which is near enough I suppose. Ray Crawford was born in Portsmouth though.

Johnny Gordon, Mike Barnard (Havant) Then there was Bobby Stokes, you know the Saints only trophy winner.

Yes you are right, he was born in Alton. He did play for Winchester though when he was spotted by Pompey. He could have gone to Southampton before Pompey came in but he wasn't fond of Saints in any way, then or after.StMonkton wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 7:38 pmSorry to be a pedantic old git but my book has Jimmy Dickinson born in Alton. The Lisbon Lions, the first British Club to win the European Cup (as it was then) in 1967, all their Players came from a very short distance from Parkhead in Glasgow. The magnificent Portsmouth Teams came from a much larger radius of the UK. In the 21st century a much larger radius of the world!
