The News Reporting Pompey now bidding for Callum Lang (forward) from Wigan
https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/foot ... rt-4490666
in summary: Pompey have notified Wigan of their interest as of last Friday and have told Wigan they will lodge a formal bid this week.
It is being reported openly in Wigan press that Lang has told the club he wants to leave and the manager there is quoted confirming this and that he will won't be in the match day squad now whilst a move is finalised in the January window.

Rotherham are interested and they are managed by Liam Richardson who was Lang's manager at Wigan when Wigan won promotion from L1. Lang scored 15 and had 8 assists that year playing mostly in the right sided attacking role (where Kamara and Whyte play for Pompey).
Perhaps Pompey are thinking that Lang gives them extra firepower now and settles that right side attacking position for next season when Kamara's loan ends.

They have said they are interested in a Winger, I also think Lang fits the MO.
I'd not be too sure how much of a sway Rotherham might be, they look dead certs for relegation.

Apart from Saturday recently Kamara has mainly played on the left with Lane on the right which has proven to be better than the reverse wish the snooze would check their facts
Admittedly Lane joined us as a left winger but he has adapted well so if this rumour is true then he can revert to the left

Lang has been at Rotherham his entire career and has worked under Liam Richardson.
So staying local and being in a known physical and work place environment has its draw but on the otherhand Rotherham (as Pompey1984+1 points out) are rock bottom of the Championship and are eight pts a drift from safety
Rotherham are the third lowest scorers in the division at this stage (25 goals from 28 games) but importantly have conceded 52 goals (nearly 2 a game) and only Blackburn (conceded 53) has a worse defensive record. Indeed no-one else in the league has conceded more than 46 goals other than Rotherham and Blackburn. My point is that Rotherham are very poor in attack and shockingly bad defensively and that is not a good combination when you have 20 games left to overturn nine points to safety.
Rotherham's home games average 10k. Pompey are about 18k per home game
Pompey can at least offer him a role in a successful team this season and with a stronger foundation for next season and beyond.

Kamara prefers to play as a right sided player but so does Lane. At the start of the season to accommodate both (Scully and Whyte injured and out of form) Mousinho played Kamara on the left and Lane on the right.Pompey55 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 1:05 pm Apart from Saturday recently Kamara has mainly played on the left with Lane on the right which has proven to be better than the reverse wish the snooze would check their facts

That changed after a few months and for the last couple of months or so Kamara has been given more of the right wing role - where he has been really effective imho - and Lane has had to adapt to playing on the left side.
Great to have flexibility but we so many more options for the right sided attacker than the right.

If Pompey are actually interested in him, and they think he's actually interested in Rotherham. They just need to remind him of the prospect of commuting across the Pennines. Even for a week.Jack_Tinn wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 1:14 pm Lang has been at Rotherham his entire career and has worked under Liam Richardson.

I wouldn't wish that journey on anyone... Ok maybe Matt Le Tisser.
