How many on here are from the old 606 days?
Think that was the first Pompey forum I ever posted on. Was a great way to waste an afternoon instead of doing my dissertation. Good mix of decent content and the occasional wind up merchant.
Just had a look and it was shut down in 2011. Can't believe it was that long ago. Making me feel old. I always thought this site was created because 606 was shut down but just seen my account is almost 14 years old!
Anyway just curious how many of us come from the old 606 days?

Made the odd post back then, but mainly stayed in the background. I remember the exodus to the gardening posts, and the Cockchafer discussions

From memory a lot of people including me moved to My Sports Talk after 606 and that lasted a while and then Chris in LA managed to convince His Eminence Rubi to open this message board in 2006.

Yes, I started on 606. Then moved here in May 2006. I didn't realise that 606 dragged on so long after we all moved here. I thought it had packed up before we moved, but there must have been some other change in the way they operated to push everyone out of the door. Anyone remember?

Re: How many on here are from the old 606 days?
I recall the 606 days with a fondness - teh start of the La La League with Norm (Tinky Winky) and when he got busy, I had the honour of taking it over. As 606 wained, I was convinced to move it to this board which saw its continued success to this day under That's Rich (another 606er)
Best memories were the friday afternoon attacks on the Saints board and others on a whim - good comedy which is probably why the stuffy BBC shut it down (couldn't have the public enjoying themselves could they)

I was there and moved over in 2006, when this board started. I was under another name, but after years of lurking ( and forgetting my login details) I rejoined under the current name about 6 or 7 years ago.

I was on 606 - great memories, particularly of all the banter. As Pompey Penguin suggests, something happened to 606 that made it lose its appeal over night, but I can't remember what it was - something to do with posting rules and administration???

Good grief - was it as far back as 2006! I really should have stuck some adverts on here

Yep, I'm an old 606'er too. Jumped ship in 2006. Loved the banter, which continued over to this board. Marmite and Clare's dungeon.

I registered on the 606 board and within a month is was as dead as a dodo. An extended period of self-assessment followed...

Re: How many on here are from the old 606 days?
As I recall, we all moved away from 606 because it was just so darn slow -- you'd make a post, and it would take literally 5 minutes (and longer) to appear. We moved to My Sports Talk, which lasted no time at all, maybe a couple of months. I presume that whoever owned it didn't want to pay for enough server space and bandwidth to make it viable, so it suddenly shut down, with no warning.
So, it was back to 606 until His Rubiness set this little home up for us.

From my recollection, the BBC made two policy changes with regard to 606. First, it became so popular that it became difficult to monitor so some restrictions were introduced. Then there was a further phase before it was finally stopped completely, but I cannot recall the details.
Thanks to Rubi, I was able to join this forum which has proved really good over the years - informed and opinionated with some great contributors.
