Pretty sure Alan scored at the first Pompey game I ever went to. The atmosphere and crowd was intimidating to a young me at the time but I've been hooked ever since I heard the roar when he scored! Memories were made not just on that day but the subsequent decades of being a Pompey fan.
He was a big reason for that great first experience and the catalyst for me being a lifelong Pompey fan. RIP.

I echo all the sentiments above, a great player and a true gent. You can tell by the reaction on Twitter that he was universally loved by all, including family, friends, fans, players and even the media. RIP Macca.

My oldest broke the news to me last night, and mentioned that it was Macca who was the first summariser that he listened to on the radio commentary for Quay Radio, back in the Prem days.
A great player.

Very sad news. Was great to watch him play alongside Walsh, Whittingham etc in the early 90's. Always gave his best.

David Squires does Macca in The Guardian today. This sort of thing is usually reserved for the loss of the Maradona's of this world, so great to see, although Squires is a big Swindon fan so not a total surprise. Touching and highly recommended.
