Just read that elsewhere, top bloke, great player and part of the Pompey family. Gone far too soon, thoughts are with his family.

that is very sad news indeed. I read that his father passed earlier this year too. Terrible time for the family and my condolences to them.

RIP Alan.

Wish we could have fans in the ground so that we could do an appropriate minute applause and appreciation of his time at Pompey.

Absolutely heart-breaking news - 54 is way too early and he still had so much to offer the game.

One of my favourite Pompey players, he had so much talent that it still remains a mystery why he never played at the top level. The hat-trick at Blackburn stands out as one of my favourite memories, especially as they were the current champions at the time.

RIP Macca.

Oh no, that is sad news.
Far too young to pass.
was only saying a while ago about the goal he scored against Nots Forest.
RIP Alan.

I recall his early goal ah home to Forest in the FA Cup 1/4 Final - shocked that he has gone so young

Sincere condolences from me as well.

It was only recently that he was acting as summariser alongside Andy Moon for a BBC Radio Solent Pompey match - knowledgeable, fair and astute.

Truly a tremendous contribution to the club. Rest In Peace, Alan.

Absolutely awful news. One of the Pompey greats and a unique player. We had to build the team around him, and we were all the better for it.

What terrible news. RIP Macca, I'll never forget that goal v Forest in 92. But he was much more than that, very talented player. I met him @ a Pompey open day back in the mid 90's & my son had his photo taken with him. Lovely, straight talking bloke. Terribly sad news.
