I presume, because it has one of those # in front, it is some sort of twitter campaign? That excludes a fair chunk of the older generation........ Whatever it is, they could always put it on FacebotheredBook, just to exclude some more people?
edit: looked it up using normal internet - antihomophobic, rainbow laces campaign.
Good campaign, but HATE the way everything is twitter or facebook these days.

I can accept that marketing via social media is a surefire way to reach a huge audience. What has been proven in recent years however, is that blanket marketing is the number one reason which turns people away from social media. Consequently people reject the product or the cause too.
On the flipside though, niche marketing, (ie. actually targeting associated groups inside Facebook/Twitter instead of just anyone with a page) gets a far greater rate of return, and an open line of communication with people most likely to react positively.
Seems common sense I know, but its not being done anywhere near enough.

But how exactly do you quickly, efficiently and cheaply reach the vast majority of older folk who aren't on Twitter/Facebook?pompeypanther wrote:I presume, because it has one of those # in front, it is some sort of twitter campaign? I don't know what the demographics are for the average football fan but I'd guess this Twitter campaign reaches a lot more people than a traditional and expensive press campaign would and it is far more interactive and involves the fans more than them just reading it in a paper - Twitter users are sharing images and experiences related to this issue, which is great and impossible using old media.
If you don't like Twitter or refuse to use it, fine. Just don't complain about it being used in this way because it IS the best way to do this.

Re: I doff my cap...
Absolutely no problem with it being done and appreciate what you say, BUT I just can't stand the attitude that we all use twitter or facebook. It just seems that most things on radio/tv seem to say "for more info, check out facebook/twitter...". It may be an incorrect assumtion, but that is just the way it appears to me. You could say that even those that say "check out our web page" are still alienating people, so I suppose the answer is:Pompski! wrote:But how exactly do you quickly, efficiently and cheaply reach the vast majority of older folk who aren't on Twitter/Facebook?pompeypanther wrote:I presume, because it has one of those # in front, it is some sort of twitter campaign? "for further info, check out our web page, facebook, twitter, newspaper, local newspaper, the guy knocking at your door/telephoning you/stopping you in the street, advertising hoarding." That should cover most people.

Re: I doff my cap...
I agree with both sides to a certain extent. I use FB and can see the point of it, good for keeping in touch with people I'd otherwise have lost touch with copletely years ago and it quite easily wastes the odd few minutes here and there. However, I still can't see the point of Twitter, so don't use it. So on that side of the argument I agree that whacking a hashtag everywhere will not mean a damned thing to me - and I think, a lot of people. So use a Twitter thingy by all means, but (if they want to reach a larger number of people) then use it in addition to something else I think is the answer.
By the way, it's good that they call it a hash tag and not a pound tag.

You're a businessman Rubi? You should embrace Twitter. It's the best free marketing and networking tool on the planet. It has never been easier to steal business from your competitors and reach thousands of potential customers for free!RubiconCSL wrote:I agree with both sides to a certain extent. A very good campaign. Shame the Premier League wanted to commercialise it.
Think of Twitter as a filter and aggregator. You follow people and organisations who interest you, and they provide headlines of stuff you might want to explore further. Ignore the celebrities.RubiconCSL wrote:I agree with both sides to a certain extent. Hey....all y'all that use facebook etc...well, each to their own and you are welcome to it.
Me...well, I don't go near it. I like to think of it in the same way as those clever kiddies at Grand Theft Auto.
They parody it nicely don't they?
Facebook is Lifeinvader.
"Remember! We aren't ripping them off if they don't read the T&C"
"The reason the world never gets anything done any more"
Twitter is Bleeter

'Welcome the the delusion of having an interesting life and friends.'
Brilliant.

I can't see the point of FB or Twitter - FB is a carbuncle on the face of reasoned thought and Twitter is designed to witter about inconsequential nothingness and will doubtless dilute our vocabulary and return us to a neanderthal existence......RubiconCSL wrote:I agree with both sides to a certain extent. The campaign is a good thing. Shame it's taken a bookie doing some ambush marketing to co-ordinate something (and I say that as a low-grade punter of said bookie).Ronald Dinlo wrote:... to both Paddy Power and Joey Barton, for their excellent work on the #RBGF campaign. so very, very long overdue.
I'll doff my cap to any of our players who have the laces on tomorrow. Hopefully this campaign will help in kicking homophobia out of football (and society more generally).
If you've got something left to say, you'd better say it now.

If you follow some ape from TOWIE then yes you will be getting drivel but if you follow an organisation you are associated with or use the hashtag to group source information then it's a fantastic resource.
eg, There's an organisation that science teachers are members of and every Monday they do a hashtag session where any of their Twitter followers can take part, share ideas, links etc. It is then aggregated into an archive a bit like this forum. The beauty is you can take part wherever you are in the world, easily and efficiently and unlike a forum, you can have conversations with individuals and groups at the same time or independently of each other. It's like a very efficient forum.
Get with it folks, it will be around for some time yet!

Re: I doff my cap...
given the general diversion of the thread into the relative merits of social media, rather than engaging with the subject material... i guess it's no surprise that homosexuality in football stays well, y'know, mm, harumph, err, mmm, fancy a pint?
(fwiw, the social media campaign was supported by national press and at least one tv interview also)
