Fratton Park & Wolves away in 1991, pictures
Thought these may be of interest, firstly some pictures looking out from the south stand during a reserve game against Arsenal in 1991:

Also a set of pictures from Wolves away a few days later, Tony Barton's final game and the last game of the season:

Lee Russell, Graeme Hogg, Martin Kuhl and probably Ray Daniel chucking their shirts to the fans in this picture:

I don't recall many more pictures from away days apart from some at St James Park the following year when Newcastle almost went in to Div 3.

When you said a picture of Tony Barton's last game I thought you meant his last game playing for us which would probably be back in the mid-sixties. Bit disappointed it wasn't a pic from back then really but some good pics from early nineties.

Completely forgot about his playing career, it was a little before my time.

Nice seeing the terrace again at FP. When I started going was in 1993, and used to stand in the FE, at the end of where the disabled shelter bit was on the FE (nearest to the goal), which must have been installed between 1991 and 1993!
When was the FE double teired then? Does anyone have photos of this please?
Many thanks

See my post above but if you want more details...surk. wrote:When did it come down? And why? Thanks
It was shut for structural reasons in Mar/April 86 and the costs of repair were estimated to be between £200-£400k depending on what the investigation brought. I don't believe that the club sought a second opinion to challenge the elf & safety decision.
Jim Gregory bought Pompey in June 88 and promptly demolish the top tier and put a planning application into PCC to build a new top tier terrace but that was abandoned as a result of the Hillsborough disaster in April 89.

Re: Fratton Park & Wolves away in 1991, pictures
After a bit of looking I found this video on Youtube that gives a panorama of Fratton Park in 1980 including the Fratton End when it still had two tiers:

Also I just added pictures from a friendly at Dorchester, I think their ground was brand new at the time (1991), this was also the start of Jim Smith's largely successful time as manager.
