Jimmy Greaves

Post by New Forester »

A true legend. R.I.P. Sadly, the older one gets you feel the absence of old friends and people you have so long admired and seen in their greatest moments.
Avatar: Harry 'Brusher' Mills (19 March 1840 – 1 July 1905) was a hermit, resident in the New Forest in Hampshire, England, who made his living as a snake-catcher. He became a local celebrity and an attraction for visitors to the New Forest. No relation as far as I know :thumb

I was present for the Cup game in february 1967 at White Hart Lane along with about 20,000 Pompey Fans. Greavsie scored their first goal and Gilzean the other two in a 3-1 Spurs win. They won the Cup that year and should have won the League. Greavsie scored one of the most repeated TV goals against Man Utd where he beat about 5 players before passing the ball into the net, awesome. People have been speculating that he was probably nearest to Messi in terms of skill level and the rare ability to score goals in volume season after season!

Jimmy Greaves scored goals for fun and that shows in his scoring stats. One of the best, if not the best natural goslscorers that ever played for England. Cheers Jimmy

My dad came from Islington and was a spurs man, hence I followed in his footsteps :)
I remember Jimmie playing alongside Alan Gilzean...what a pairing they made.
Jimmies autobiography is a must-read. :thumb
