bl**dy adverts, everywhere
Doesn't seem to matter whether I'm logged in or not, but suddenly the forum is plastered with adverts. Is it just me or is everyone seeing similar?

Ditto. To an extent that it is almost unusable. No Shot Sherlock wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 9:27 pm Doesn't seem to matter whether I'm logged in or not, but suddenly the forum is plastered with adverts. Is it just me or is everyone seeing similar?

Really annoying, especially the ones that pop up from the bottom of the screen.

Adverts at the top, bottom and even in the middle of someone's posts. It's very annoying, but if it's the price we must pay to keep this board going I'll have to accept it.

I'll see if I can cut them down a bit. Google controls it, but maybe I can limit them.

Cheers Rubi, something has definitely changed in the last 24 hours. Appreciate ads help pay for the site, but never known them to be so intrusive.RubiconCSL wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 10:58 pm I'll see if I can cut them down a bit. Google controls it, but maybe I can limit them.

Re: bl**dy adverts, everywhere
I was wondering why I kept on seeing half naked men popping up all over the place. Thought I’d stumbled into the wrong forum!

I thought that it targeted the adverts to you based on your previous searches, Sam. . .

Re: bl**dy adverts, everywhere
I think that should have got rid of the new one, where they started embedding ads within posts. Google calls these things "experiments". I THINK I've changed the setting, so that they won't automatically try new experiments. Instead, I believe, they will suggest them and when I'm logged in (not very often) I can then decide whether they can try their magic or not.
Anyway, apologies for the annoyance of the ads, but they do at least just about cover the cost of running this thing - plus the hours I spend on it (on and off). Mainly, deleting the dozens of fake registrations every day!

Anyway thanks Rubi for everything you do to keep this community going. Hopefully I’m not alone when I say I genuinely do appreciate this forum and the effort you’ve put in over the years to keep it going.

Re: bl**dy adverts, everywhere
Would make sense with the adverts for gas masks. Wonder if my phone has been listening to my wonderful wife moaning about my farts today.

Re: bl**dy adverts, everywhere
Don’t understand any of this. Perhaps I have some long forgotten ad blocker in place?

Re: bl**dy adverts, everywhere
Right, I think I've turned off everything other than the header and footer ads - plus maybe the occasional one that takes over the page. Hopefully, not too intrusive now. Google ads are a real pain to control!
