There are a couple of options.

If the image is on a website somewhere
...and you can legally link to it, then click the "Img" button above the box you type your message into (or press alt+p). Paste the link to the image and click the "Img" button again. You will end up with something like this: -

Code: Select all

Which produces: -
Image

Don't link to large files; either in dimensions or in the actual file size. If the file is too big, it will not display very well and/or will slow the thread down when it is displayed.

If the image is on your PC, then...

When you are posting, simply add the file. If it is too big though, try image shack:-

You can upload an image to ImageShack: http://imageshack.us. Follow the instructions (which are pretty straight forward).

When it has finished uploading, a page is displayed with lots of different links you can use to display it on a webpage. For a bulletin board like this one, just cut+paste the link with the label "Thumbnail for Forums (1)"

You'll then end up with the following:-

Code: Select all

Which will look like: -
Image

When the post is then viewed by other people, they see a thumbnail, which prevents huge image files slowing the board down. If they want to see the full image, they can simply click the thumbnail.
