Tonight's match squad
No place for Luke McGhee or Ollie Hawkins. Louis Dennis starts the first half in central midfield - this is where you have to grab your chance Louis.

Re: Tonight's match squad
Two assists and a goal for Louis Dennis as Pompey go 3-0 up after 24 minutes.
Curtis (10) Lowe (16) and Dennis (24)
Think you could say he's taken his chance!!

At 41 minutes, 5-0 with two goals from Dennis.
Suspect that there will be a part-change of the PFC team at half time? But what a start!

Re: Tonight's match squad
Blimey! 5 - 0 before half time - Curtis 2, Dennis 2, Lowe. Can't wait to see the highlights, assuming that there will be some.
As you said SB, Louis does seem to have taken his chance!

Completely new eleven for the 2nd half.

Re: Tonight's match squad
really pleased that Dennis has been given a chance to stake a claim in the starting xi. An attacking four of Curtis, Harrison, Lowe and Dennis has goals, movement and pace for me at the top of a firm foundation.
Williams, Pittman, Hawkins and Evans add variation and depth from the bench. Walkes and Burgess does the same for the defensive foundation.
encouraging start of pre-season. five goals in the first half and a clean sheet.

...And by the 80th minute, it's 10-0 including three goals from Pitman.

But for some reason, Ollie Hawkins is not in the squad at all tonight....Jack_Tinn wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2019 6:29 pm really pleased that Dennis has been given a chance to stake a claim in the starting xi. Finished 11-0.
The Hawks' game on Saturday 13th will provide another test - possibly stronger opposition - though UCD are in Ireland's Premier Division.

Re: Tonight's match squad
You're right: the News tonight is reporting that Ollie had a back injury sustained during Dublin training. Hancott was the substitute.

Re: Tonight's match squad
What I found very very interesting about last night's starting eleven is that Kenny explicitly said that those players are the ones he is currently preferring as his strongest XI. And Louis Dennis is one of those. Kenny has also said how impressed he has been with him in pre-season.
Of course, he said much the same last season, when Burge and Clarke were the main pair at CB, but first game of the season and Whatmough played instead of Burge, so perhaps things might change re Dennis and Pitman at no.10.
Clearly, an 11-0 scoreline suggests that we didn't pick the correct standard of opposition, I read that UCD played 9 of their main players. I would agree that H&W will provide stiffer opposition.

Re: Tonight's match squad
Just watched the highlights on YouTube. I thought both Dennis and Canon looked lively in the Number 10 position, which is a great sign as having a proper Number 10 this season I think is crucial. But, the opposition looked terrible, so it is hard to draw any significant conclusions i.e. don't bet the mortgage quite yet!
