Re: Pompey players on the lash after the game
Statement from the club:
During the course of yesterday (May 10), Portsmouth Football Club were made aware of an incident that occurred outside Astoria nightclub on Sunday evening. After liaising with the police and speaking to players who were present, we now have an understanding of what happened.
A member of the public did require medical treatment, but despite rumours to the contrary, nobody was, or has been, arrested and no allegations of assault have been made. While footballers are entitled to enjoy themselves in their spare time, there are acceptable boundaries and it is clear, in this instance, that a line was crossed. They fell below the standards expected of them as representatives of Portsmouth Football Club.
We have started an internal process with the players who were involved and they will be dealt with appropriately.

Wasn’t Martines in guildhall square ? There used to be a club downstairs under what became Route 66 - 400 club ? And if you go back far enough to my parents day i believe it was a playboy club or was that the casino by Ken’s ? My parents met at the savoy which afterwards was neroes/5th avenue/time and envy, did enjoy Route 66 in its hey day but zoom/basement was my favourite, is scandals still going, conflicting info on the webPortchester PFC wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 8:16 amLast time i went in there it was MartinesPompey1984+1 wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 9:01 pmThat is the old Route 66 building - and whatever it was before that.

Martines is the Astoria nightclub (whatever it's called) The old Palace cinema. Route 66 was in Palmy rd next to Chicago Rock if I remember correctly. One of them used to be part of SPECS with the Pomme D'Or downstairs.
Your username Meakins, is that after the sports shop in North End in the 1970's??

Route 66 was also what Astoria is now. Made some mistakes in that place.Betelgeuse wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 7:26 pm Martines is the Astoria nightclub (whatever it's called) The old Palace cinema. Indeed, next to the fruit and veg shop, there was also one in cosham high street and briefly Havant, the old man is just about clinging on at 92, apologies to anyone who ever tried to return anything, not the most forgiving at times, he did go out on to own chapter and verse bookshop near guildhall square and bay tree bookshop in Waterlooville, not many other independent sport or book store owners these daysBetelgeuse wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 7:26 pm Martines is the Astoria nightclub (whatever it's called) The old Palace cinema. Nero's was Southsea Mate. Part of the Club Tiberius, Nero's, Joannas run of clubs. Jo's-fallen out of there a fair few times.meakinsl wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 3:29 pmWasn’t Martines in guildhall square ? There used to be a club downstairs under what became Route 66 - 400 club ? Nero's was plusher & you had to be half sober to get in which I managed a couple of times. Think Club Tiberius you had to be a member.
It was all in the buildings that Redknapp bought & wanted to develop but was turned down. Then mysteriously burned down.

And was that fruit and veg shop owned by the Madgewick family, run by George? If you knew them, any idea what happened to George?

Re: Pompey players on the lash after the game
Nero's, Joanna's, Club Tiberius (and the comedy club/bar beneath it) were all owned by Pleasurama Group. I used to work the doors over the road (on the pier) in those days and lived just back off the seafront (near the end of Captain's Table). Those were the days!!!

Yep, Neros was southsea seafront in the old savoy buildings, it became 5th Avenue after that, used to love it in there, few beers in Fanshaws as well. What was the name of the burger place next door, was it the Intrepid Bun or something daft ? Many a beer sponge eaten in therepompeygunner wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 9:52 pmNero's was Southsea Mate. Think it was the Munch Bar or something in the late 80s early 90s at least.

As far as i recall the pomme d'or turned into slanders around 1991 and then into route 66 around 1996.meakinsl wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 3:29 pmWasn’t Martines in guildhall square ? Re: Pompey players on the lash after the game
Slanders ! That had completely slipped my mind and yes now remember 400 club was round the corner, spent an awful lot of time and money in the full range of nightclubs from ritzies, Peggy sues/zoom, Martines, scandals, fifth Avenue, 400 club and sadly enjoyed them allHamburg Skate wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 8:20 pmAs far as i recall the pomme d'or turned into slanders around 1991 and then into route 66 around 1996.meakinsl wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 3:29 pmWasn’t Martines in guildhall square ?
