Sheffield Wednesday
Getting away from politics and BBC
Any views on todays game
I think that we could get a draw purely based on the fact that we have not lost to any of the top 6 at home this season

Re: Sheffield Wednesday
Really looking forward to this one. Leaving just after midday to drive down. A win would be great, and I would be okay with a draw, but what I would like most of all would be a good performance from Pompey, even if we lose.
Is it too much to hope for that Lane might start wide right, to see how he goes in his favoured position? I hope that he will be part of the team going forward into next season, and he needs game time to settle in.

Re: Sheffield Wednesday
No wonder Wednesday are so good this year. They've got Reece James in their squad and he doesn't even start!

Re: Sheffield Wednesday
OK, having seen it again you are correct on both counts. I also agree that Ogilvie is, and always has been, slow to react against a speedy opponent. I am also very concerned with Towler's lack of heading ability; can't jump and gets beaten in the air on most occasions.BlueinPLtwenty wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2023 3:58 pmYes but Ogilvie should have stopped the runner

Re: Sheffield Wednesday
I realise stats don't always tell the full story, but it looks like we gave it a good try. It appears we do need to be able to hit the target a bit more though. As a school report, it's: "Tries hard but could do better. Tends to be easily distracted : C+".

Absolutely gave it a good go I would like to see their goal as from where we were it looked miles offsideRubiconCSL wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2023 5:30 pm I realise stats don't always tell the full story, but it looks like we gave it a good try. No way can I criticize the effort of the team and quite honestly on another day we would have won

Re: Sheffield Wednesday
Definitely gave it a good go but sometimes we just didn't think fast enough to set up chances. It was similar under the Cowleys. It seems a few players aren't good enough to play the way we want to at the moment. It was frustrating at times as opportunities to cross or pass to create a chance were there but not taken. I'm a little concerned we try to play out from the back too much when we don't have the players to do that at the moment. Hopefully the new coaching team can improve the players for next season. Wednesday were organised in defence and took advantage of errors. But we had them rattled again like we did against Bolton. Need to do that away from home though. Fingers crossed for next season.Pompey55 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2023 6:07 pmAbsolutely gave it a good go I would like to see their goal as from where we were it looked miles offsideRubiconCSL wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2023 5:30 pm I realise stats don't always tell the full story, but it looks like we gave it a good try. Re: Sheffield Wednesday
I think it showed again how far we are off having a genuine promotion team. I actually thought we played well and I agreed with the Man of the Match being Piggott. With a little bit of luck we could have got something out of the game, particularly with the goal line clearance near the end of the game. However, I think Wednesday deserved their win as I think they looked more dangerous going forward and coped reasonably well with our attack. They had more pace than us and they looked very organised with each player well drilled on their jobs. Tellingly they out muscled us but they knew how to use strong arm tactics, but they can play as well.
