MOTD Highlights programme

Post by New Forester »

Just watched. 500,000 more viewers!

Really enjoyed it. But then I usually turn on at kick off, leave the sound off and switch off on the final whistle. What the programme proved was that they could give us the option of crowd noise only while watching. Just like being at the match.

Didn’t miss Gary and his mates.

I would guess that a large part of the increased viewership would be people tuning in to get a look at what it would look like without the commentators and pundits. A unique viewing experience often drawers crowds. If the BBC and other broadcasters thought such increased viewing figures could be sustained then I'm sure they would not hesitate in moving forward like this in the future, saving a fortune on these people's wages. I doubt that would happen.

I've got to say, that when I do watch MOTD (not often) I watch it on iPlayer and always FF through the talking (and any Southampton matches obviously) . I'm not sure whether no commentators during the match would work, but presenters and pundits make no difference to me.

I do think the extra viewers last night were people wanting to see what the fuss was all about. A bit like people slowing down to look at a crash. Just morbid curiosity.
Like many, trust few and always paddle you own canoe.
