sorry I have absolutely no sympathy with him at all.
They all knows the rules around betting on football, yet he did it anyway, they caught him, warned him that they were going to investigate him, so he placed some more bets !!!!
ok he may have an addiction that he can not control, in which case he needs to spend his 8months doing FA getting some help with that

Exactly. It's time some players were reeled in and not just for breaking betting rules. Those at the top of the game need to set the example.

then he should have sought help when they first caught him, rather than ignoring it and carrying on betting. if he had sought help at that point he may not have got 8 months, but to ignore the warnings and carry on betting regardless knowing he was being investigated is just plain dumb, addiction or no addiction

That’s the problem with addictions. They make rationale people do dumb things. The FA should have insisted on getting help (assuming they knew) as a condition for not being suspended in the first occasion.

Regardless of your thoughts on SG as a tactician no doubt he has the backs of his players and this sort of attitude is refreshing to see. I think he speaks a lot of sense here and reflects what a fair few posters in this thread have said in recent weeks.

Remember whan Claridge was done for the same thing. There were silly odds on us beating Barnsley (?) so he and a few others put a stack on, we won with big odds.
