Re: Bristol City Friendly
I echo the comments made by Pompey 55. From what I saw of this afternoons game and AFC Wimbledon, we can’t score for toffee and there was little to no creativity whatsoever.
With exception to having more strength in depth off the bench, I’m struggling to see what is different to last season? God forbid if Bishop gets injured.
It’s groundhog season all over again and expect us finishing around 9th.

Re: Bristol City Friendly
Too many Fans think we have the divine right to demolish every other Team in sight. The reality is that we are a League One Team and have been for nearly 7 years. We have in that time been on the edge of the "Play Offs". We have had new Owners who will not dive into debt in an attempt to buy promotion. Their fingers have been burnt with the purchases of Marquis & Harrison. They have spent more money than they anticipated to bring an ageing stadium capable of housing a demanding & large loyal support. We all hope that a quality midfielder can be added to the squad which should make us very competitive. This type of Player will cost money which has been promised, watch this space!

Indeed. And maybe we have approached players but they haven't wanted to come for whatever reason. Some people don't seem to take that into account but use it as a stick to beat the owners.BlueinPLtwenty wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 11:01 am Too many Fans think we have the divine right to demolish every other Team in sight. lol ain't that the truth. It's the hope that kills you. That and the dawning realization as that hope slowly fades away.

We can't blame the owners it's down to our recruitment team to identify the players they think we need to achieve promotion for which we have been told funds will be provided if neededNSRailings wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 12:35 pmIndeed. All some of us have said that it was evident we needed an attacking central midfield player before the window opened

Re: Bristol City Friendly
I think there is an issue here with our club in terms of the reliance on Hughes to bring in value in the transfer market. By that I mean he has been hired to find underrated and underpriced players, who may have the potential to exceed their current market value. Indeed one or two of them may do that, the problem is though you don’t get creative attacking midfielders in this category. They are a rare breed who are already established and proving their capabilities consequently sought after and they cost money. This factor negates the need for utilising the talents of Hughes we just need to bite the bullet and pay the market value of such a player.

Yes, but supposing a player doesn't want to come to us no matter what the price is.jam tomorrow wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 3:30 pm I think there is an issue here with our club in terms of the reliance on Hughes to bring in value in the transfer market. Re: Bristol City Friendly
To be fair that was before we acquired the vast experience of Hughes to guide our absolutely brilliant recruitment effort this window 12 signings but still only marginally better than last season with most being either squad players or inexperienced players he expects to quickly adapt and come good so we can sell them onBetelgeuse wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 5:48 pmBefore the transfer window opened 3 years ago.Pompey55 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 1:53 pmWe can't blame the owners it's down to our recruitment team to identify the players they think we need to achieve promotion for which we have been told funds will be provided if neededNSRailings wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 12:35 pmIndeed. see we have all written this season all over again.
Wrote it off before a player was signed, wrote it off when we didnt sign Premiership quality players even though we are in league 1
now written it off after preseason games didnt result in 25 -0 wins against everyone
I look forward to a relegation battle
