It’s all gone a bit quiet. What do people think of Carsley so far as England manager?

General chat room. Pompey related or not, but PLEASE keep it reasonably clean.

How many qualifiers were lost under Southgate?
I don’t know how many ? There were games such as against Iceland where we played a safe game and got punished for it I’m not being critical of his record just his style of play. Now Carsley may come unstuck by playing in an attacking style, especially against stronger competition.

I was able to watch some of the Ireland Match in my hotel room in France but none of the Finland game. I thought England looked pretty good. Gordon on the left wing looked a welcome improvement Grealish was a livewire. Assessment so far: Very Positive!

That would be the match when Roy Hodgson was manager I guess?

I think only 1 qualifying match was lost under Southgate.

I’m just trying to make the point that Southgate was very successful by being careful, knowing our strength wasn’t in defending.

We had a go at’Gung Ho’ with Keegan and it failed. If you lose a knockout match you go home. Attacking style is great but I’d rather we went deep in tournaments, even if boring.

If we play like we did in the Finland match against a good side we’ll get slaughtered. Carsley won’t set up the same way against one of the top sides I’m sure.

Separate but related issue, what is it with Gordon? I don’t know much of him but was underwhelmed by his game against Finland.

Mostly cutting back on to right foot like all the ‘stupid selection’ wide players of the last few years. Is he better than that usually or am I missing something?

Ironically Gordon played in that game as well under Southgate

I have to laugh @ these sort of posts. Southgate is the most successful England manager since Ramsey.
The over excitement of wins for Carsley over poor opposition is funny tbh.
Anyhow on what basis would Finland have "nicked it"?
By putting the ball in the net how else?

Good correction, thank you.

I was mainly thinking of competition matches but should have remembered this.
